Unity and Service Events to Honor Martin Luther King Jr.

鈥淟ife鈥檚 most persistent and urgent question is, 鈥榃hat are you doing for others?鈥欌 鈥 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The University of South 成人快播 and the Mobile community will host several events to commemorate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with service projects, community conversations, voter registration, a rally, march and film screening.

USA students, faculty, staff and alumni join the community by participating in the four-day Unity and Service event set for Jan. 16鈥20. Everyone is encouraged to help inspire a feeling of service and unity in the Mobile community and surrounding areas.

Shannon Shelley-Tremblay, director of community engagement for USA, said each year the University of South 成人快播 commemorates the MLK holiday weekend by participating in and co-hosting a variety of service, unity and community-building activities with organizations and individuals from across the campus and Mobile.

 鈥淪pearheaded by the People United to Advance the Dream of Mobile, MLK 2020 events are focused on the theme of love. For as Dr. King, said, 鈥楲ove is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend.鈥 Whether you are interested in participating in conversations to move our community forward, helping to clean up our waterways, participating in the annual MLK March and Rally, celebrating the accomplishments of leaders in our community, registering others to vote, or attending a historical film, there鈥檚 something for everyone.鈥

King was the preacher of non-violence. He is a symbol of peace and truth. In 1964, he received the Nobel Peace Prize for his work to end racism. He had a dream to make the world a better place. He was born on Jan. 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Ga. He was assassinated on April 4, 1968, in Memphis, Tenn. He spent his life fighting against social injustice.
